SO LONG AND GOODNIGHT MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE

I actually can't believe that I am writing this post to you all, because only months ago I was writing about Conventional Weapons and what I thought the new album would sound like.
But I'm truly heartbroken to say that last night My Chemical Romance officially announced their split.

I don't think many people saw it coming, I for one was convinced their fifth album was just waiting round the corner because following on from previous MCR logic, their new album should have been ready for release in 2014. I was so excited to hear what direction the album would take, where it would go and to finally get the opportunity to see my heroes live, in the flesh, right before my eyes.

So to think that we are never going to hear new music from them or ever get the opportunity to see them live again is a fact I just can't seem to get my head around.
I'm used to bands splitting it up, it's just something that happens and you don't really feel sad because you never had that much of an attachment to them. Yet with My Chemical Romance, I for one had and do have a  huge attachment to them, as do many millions of fans across the world.
Heading into their twelfth year as global superstars, MCR have managed to touch the hearts of so many people worldwide with a type of music that I would label 'life saving', because that's exactly what it did and will continue to do: save lives.

Magazines, record labels, Billboard and Top 40 charts, they all chart MCR's success on the amount of albums and singles sold, the quality and production of the music, and if we're going purely on those statistics alone, then My Chemical Romance must have seemed like a dream because they were phenomenally successful, right back from when 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge' took off, through to the epic release that was 'The Black Parade' and its successor 'Danger Days'.

Yet to a fan like you or me, we don't just value MCR for the amount of records they sold or their success on the weekly charts, no, because even if their record sold just 10,000 copies, we would still value them just the same and that is because of the music they made and the messages it held.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you just can't  measure My Chemical Romance's success on the number of records sold, because they aren't a band that works like that.
No, if you're going to measure MCR's success, you measure it with the amount of lives they've saved, the hearts they've touched, the phenomenal impact they've had on millions upon millions of people worldwide, all because of the music they've made.
It's not about earning money, it's about saving lives, and that's what this band has always, always done.

To me personally, MCR will always have a special place in my heart and I will always be grateful to them because their music helped to save me. I'm going to tell you why, and I have never written on here about this before, but I think that now it's the right time.
So when I was fifteen, I went through quite a low, dark period and I don't look back on this part of my life very fondly because truth was I was drowning and I couldn't quite save myself.
Now I'm not saying this to gain sympathy, because I know people had it so much worse than  me, but this was the period of my life was when I faced my battles and demons, and to this day I believe that I only managed to do it because of MCR.

In my time of need I turned to 'The Black Parade' album in particular and I would play it whenever the thoughts in my head became too harsh, mean, hard to bear.
I would drown out the world around me, filling my ears with the sound of Gerard Way singing to me, telling me to carry on, don't be afraid to walk alone, stay strong, and the loneliness and sadness would fade a little, to be replaced by a strength that made me feel like I could carry on, I could do this.
Even though it felt like no-one was on my side and that no-one understood what I was going through, in My Chemical Romance I had found a group of people who did understand and who were there for me  whenever I needed someone.
I know at the end of the day it's just music, but then again, can it really be just music when the affect it has is so powerful, positive, momentous, life saving?

When life was a daily struggle for me, My Chemical Romance were there when no-one else was and I would go to school with 'We'll carry on' written on my hand, a constant reminder to myself that I could get through this day, this darkness, this struggle, and I did manage it in the end.
And it's all because of My Chemical Romance.

Now this is just my story, just one story in a collection of millions of others, and if you're a fan of MCR, chances are you went through something like me, a period of darkness or struggle, and this band was and maybe still is your coping mechanism, the only reason your still standing and getting through each and every day.
Gerard and the boys can sing and create music so true because they've experienced that darkness too.
As fans we can relate to that honesty, we appreciate that honesty, and in MCR we see four people who went through that darkness and made it out again, into the light.

And even though they may not be a band anymore, their music will always remain, there to be listened to whenever we need it, and I can take comfort from that.
I still find myself turning to it now, when things are becoming a little too much, and I truly hope that MCR's music will continue and help to save millions of other people who just need to know that somewhere in this crazy, messed up world, someone understands, someone is there for them, someone cares,

My Chemical Romance have created a legacy, they've broken a fiercely avoided taboo, they've made music that will save lives in a way doctors and therapists could never do.
Look what they've managed to achieve in those twelve years.
And even if the sun is setting for now, I hope that one day it will rise again and for now, like Gerard has said, we should be proud, not sad, and so for now, all I can say is
LONG LIVE MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE.
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.

ARCTIC MONKEYS NEW ALBUM AND GLASTO 2013

This is one of my 'bullet bites' where I give you a snippet of information, a tad like that scrawled upon the post-it note stuck to your fridge, and you clap your hands in excitement, do a groovy dance, whatever floats your boat, and we're all happy.

So today's bullet bite is on: ARCTIC MONKEYS.
(aka. my favourite band)

We now have official confirmation from Mr Matt Helders himself that the Monkeys are working on their fifth (cor blimey eh?!) album somewhere in the beautifully vast United States of America, home of Mr Prezz, hamburgers galore and the patriotic eagle among many things.
Albeit rather a long way from their hometown of Sheffield where their phenomenally successful debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not' was created, this new album is most likely to follow in the vein of records like 'R U Mine' and 'Electricity' according to Mr Turner.
But will it be a progression from 2011's 'Suck It And See' or 2009's 'Humbug'? Because with producer Josh Homme's hand reportedly making an appearance in the creation of this next record, many music moguls are speculating that out of the two, it is probably more likely to be another 'Humbug'-esque affair.

Here at the Tee Pot, we're thinking the Monkeys next record will see the sound that shone through on records such as 'R U Mine', 'Brick By Brick' and 'Electricity' be spectacularly and effortlessly combined with a touch of the essence seen on 'Humbug' to create a record that takes the Monkeys in a slightly different direction to what we expect.
By looking back at their previous four albums it is quite obvious to see that Alex and the boys like to explore, experiment and exercise their various ideas, sounds and directions; it's how they got from the bold, observational, anecdotal and quirky 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not' to the psychedelic  hypnotic, transe-like 'Suck It And See'.
Developing their sound is what they do best so record number five is not likely to be exempt from their hunger to keep evolving their sound.
But what direction have they chosen to take it in?
That is the burning question on everyone's lips.

But then again, what about this business with all these new tour dates? I hear you ask me.
That's the question that's burning on my lips, I hear you shout.
Well mine too  my friend, mine too.
And so I have been trying to piece this puzzle together and seeing as I have googled 'Arctic Monkeys new album 2013' at least once a week since last September, I have been in a prime position to receive any new snippets of information the Monkeys have released as soon as they have been released.
So what have I found out?

Well February saw the Monkeys announce a rather large handful of tour dates for the USA and major European festivals in Croatia, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, France, Austria, Italy.
But what about England, the country in which they were born and raised?
What about us?
Well you see, one has noticed (Queenie's language for you there), that the Monkeys have conveniently managed to keep the weekend of the 28th- 30th of June free from their current list of gigs.
This may not seem like a big deal at first, but when you realise that Glasto 2013 is being held on these specific dates *wink wink* and with the rumour mill in a frenzy that the Monkeys are set to be surprise headliners on Friday 28th *another wink wink*, here at Tee Pot we are certain this is where the Monkeys are going to make their first major UK appearance this year.
Positive.
We're on to you here at the Tee Pot, you pesky little Monkeys, like Sherlock tracking his suspect.
And if we're wrong, we'll do the walk of shame all the way to Maccy D's and buy you whatever McFlurry you want.
Pinky promise.

Now with August onwards being kept clear and with Helders stating that an album made in 2013 should be released in 2013, this album is definitely on the way (hallelujah!) and we reckon Autumn 2013 will see it's arrival if it's finished by festival season, or winter 2013 if the tail end of summer is being used by the Monkeys to add any finishing touches.
Either way, if Helders has any say in it, we're getting this album by the end of this year and that, my friend, makes me very happy.

So fingers crossed for a Glasto appearance in June, keep an eye out at the end of May as that is when any new material will leak if it is indeed ready, eyes on Autumn for an album release and I think we all know that whatever direction this album has taken, it's going to sound EPIC.

MEGA MIX TOP TWENTY TRACKS

So I've been away for a while but I'm back with a list of records that vary from the very beautiful, to the right corkers, to the simply wonderful, all in one long list, all for you to listen to.
I hope you like this.
It's been a long time coming.

1) HOLD ME BY TOM ODELL
"Another amazing, passionate, elaborate affair from Mr Odell. Such a talent. Just incredible. Love, love, LOVE! Fabulous."

2) POMPEII BY BASTILLE
"Currently number two in the Top 40, this catchy little number is proving rather triumphant for Bastille and rightly so too. Once it's in your head, it's impossible to forget."

3) MY SONGS KNOW WHAT YOU DID IN THE DARK BY FALL OUT BOY
"Gets better and better with every listen. An absolute corker of a song. What a return from one of the greatest punk rock bands of this century."

4) BROKEN BY JAKE BUGG
"The first of a few Bugg masterpieces to make the list. Very sincere, honest and beautiful."

5) NOW BY PARAMORE
"'Now' marks the return of a slightly altered Paramore. It pursues a slightly different direction whilst still retaining the core essence that defines Paramore."

6) ACES BY RUEN BROTHERS
"Let's open the doors for two new faces appearing on the music scene. A really strong first release that is making waves in the music world already. Well worth a listen and a download."

7) ALL OF THE LIGHTS BY KANYE WEST FT RIHANNA AND CO.
"A gloriously grand tune from back in the day, featuring a host of utterly fabulous faces all contributing a little something here to make this track into the magnificent beast that it is."

8) SUPER RICH KIDS BY FRANK OCEAN
"So slick, smooth, well made... to put it blunt, Channel Orange is rammed full of baby making music. This guy is just a true master of his craft."

9) SIMPLE AS THIS BY JAKE BUGG
"A beautiful little undiscovered gem from the enormously talented Jake Bugg. Honest, insightful and endearing observations put perfectly into words and complimented wonderfully by the guitar."

10) GOLD DIGGER BY KANYE WEST FT JAMIE FOXX
"One word: TUNE. Get this pouring out your speakers if only to remind yourself how good this is."

11) CHOCOLATE BY THE 1975
"Delightfully catchy number from the up and coming The 1975. Distinctive, quirky and really, really good."

11) WITH OR WITHOUT YOU BY U2
"A classic that never grows old. They don't make them like this anymore do they?"
The Keane cover is also worth checking out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIGUhas-LuA

12) WATERLOO SUNSET BY THE KINKS
"A beautiful little snapshot of London life back in the late sixties."

13) TONIGHT BY THEME PARK
"Very distinct, summery, unique record by a band of the same description. Put on your summer playlist."

14) Step Up For The Cool Cats by Palma Violets
"They haven't released much material just yet but every record they put out there never fails to dissapoint. With the new album out early this week, it should prove interesting to see what else they've been hiding up there sleeves..."

15) Out On My Own by Gabrielle Aplin
"This girl cannot put a foot wrong. Every single song is so beautifully made, it's impossible to find faults, and this is no exception. A wonderful little secret beauty."

16) My Girl by Willy Moon
"Retro, classic, reminiscent of a slick, sweet era long gone, this song is refreshingly different and that is why we love it so very much."

17) Diamonds by Ben Howard
"One of our little favourites from deserving double Brit Award winner Ben Howard."

18) Cutt Off by Kasabian
"Absolute monster of a tune. Never gets old. If you haven't got it in your life, please get it. Now."

19) Seen It All by Jake Bugg
"The last appearance in our chart for Mr Bugg and one hell of a great record too. This guy really is quite something, no wonder people are hailing him the next Bob Dylan when he's producing music like this at just nineteen years old."

20) Home by Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros
"I'm sorry but the name of this band alone means they deserve a spot on this chart. Awesome creativity right there. And a great little number to play when you're on your way back to the place you call home."

STARS ALIGN FOR KODALINE

So lately, I've been falling even more in love with a certain band that goes by the name of Kodaline. The Dublin natives have been making waves since 2006, previously under the name '21 Demands', but it is in the last couple of years that everyone has begun to take note.

I can honestly say I've never heard a sound quite like theirs. Of course there are parallels with other artists, however Kodaline seem to have harnessed a sound that is distinctly their own. It's a very beautiful yet powerful one, softly sung words, lyrics that sing of an innocently wonderful kind of love, or desperation, and longing of the heart.

I get emotional every single time I watch one of their videos.
They're one of the only bands I've come across that genuinely seem to want their video to tell the story of the song they're telling, all so that you as the listener can understand and appreciate the music more so.
It's actually kind of annoying how good they are at evoking your emotions when you really didn't want them to be evoked. I sit there, hypnotized into sadness and anger and happiness over the course of four minutes and then when the video stops, I just want to grab a Kleenex and take a minute to compose myself whilst crying 'that was so beautiful' in a melodramatic fashion.

Of course listening to Kodaline also conjures up a tidal wave of emotions and seems to send you into a trance like state where it is impossible to do anything except stare out of the nearest window and let the lyrics create a series of pictures and thoughts in your mind.
Their songs are like snapshots of life, love, moments, struggles and I swear they are wizards of music or something along those lines because ever single song is so well crafted.
It's like they're telling you a story that they have created through the forms of video, imagery and of course, music and I've never heard an artist do it as beautifully as Kodaline do.

I imagine that they sit there, in the studio, and know exactly how the song should sound and will sound and how to get that sound. It's the only conclusion because all the layering of vocals, guitars, drums, sound effects, riffs, lyrics creates perfect songs, time after time.
They truly are masters of their craft.

It can surely only be a matter of time before the world really notices Kodaline and the success they deserve comes running their way in a Usain Bolt like fashion.
With the release of their debut album 'In A Perfect World' on March 25th and a tour under way, Kodaline will only add to their already growing fan base and the hype will build as everyone wants a slice of the Kodaline cake, just to throw in a food related metaphor there for you.

If you haven't already heard any music of theirs, here is your playlist:
1) All I Want
2) High Hopes
3) All My Friends
4) Lose Your Mind
5) Perfect World
6) The Answer

HELLO THERE GOOD MUSIC

Hello everybody. I hope the new year is treating you well and I hope you are dancing in the snow and building a whole army of snowmen because that is totally possible, given the fact that it has been snowing all day, all night, all morning, all evening, all the blinking time.
But if you are sitting there, crying in to you mug of tea in front of Jezza Kyle because you couldn't get your damn car off the drive, or the buses aren't operating so you can't get into town to buy a gorgeous dress for that party this weekend, or some ignorant little kid has just pelted a snowball at your new window, cry no more.
For I am here. And I am here to tell you tales of good music that I have stumbled across in the last week or so. So dry those tears, whack out a Hob Nob or a Rich Tea, lean back in your chair and read on....

So who, what, when, why?
Well....

1) TOM ODELL

This guy, let me tell you now, is amazing
I could just leave it at that, because that word is more than enough to sum up Mr Odell and his musical capabilities, but I'm guessing that you want more and you would be right in guessing that I do in fact want to tell you more about this incredible new talent. Having already won the BRIT's Critics' Choice Award 2013, which is a rather prestigious award presented by industry experts to a new, up and coming artist that they believe will own 2013, Tom Odell is the name on everyone's lips.
Now given that the likes of Emeli Sande, Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and let's not forget the mighty Adele, have also previously won this accolade, and also given that Tom is the first male to win this award, surely the critics know what they're talking about?

I for one think they most certainly do.
It becomes completely apparent, in fact, when you take the time to listen to one of Tom's perfectly crafted tracks. Take for instance 'Can't Pretend', a real belter of a song for all the right reasons. It contains such power, strength and spirit that is all conveyed through vocals that seem to be pouring emotion and accompanying music that emits punches and beats of real passion and fire.
Or take 'Another Love', a song that begins slow, ballad like before Tom discreetly injects a flame of fire that causes the song to blow up into an extravagantly emotional affair that reeks of the same passion in 'Can't Pretend'.

The more I think about it, the more I realise that the one word that describes Tom Odell's music more so than any other word is passionate. There really is no other word, because when you're sat there, listening to one of his masterpieces, you can just feel the passion pouring out of the music. You can feel it surging through your veins, causing goosebumps that only arise after listening to a truly captivating song. And that is the sign of an artist who will go on to produce great things, because that is the sign that the artist themselves are passionate about their music and the work they are creating.

I could literally go on for hours about Tom Odell and the many reasons why he is so talented and why he will become so huge. You would need to stick a cork in my mouth, followed by a lashings of duct tape before I would cease to praise this man no more. Tom really will make something of himself; it's impossible to possess so much talent, determination, power and passion and not convert it into something bigger.
So I hope this is only the first post about Mr Odell and the start of a career with the longevity of the can of baked beans in the back of your cupboard that seem to last for eternity whilst retaining their tomatoey goodness.
ALBUM 'LONG WAY DOWN' OUT 15TH APRIL 2013

2) ANDY BURROWS

You may or may not have watched a certain short film called 'The Snowman and The Snow Dog' this Christmas and you may or may not have heard a certain song accompanying the many lovingly hand drawn scenes as they unfold to tell the story of a little boy who goes on a magical Christmas Eve adventure.

If you did indeed watch this film, then you just might remember the song, but if not, I am here to enlighten you with a song so beautiful that it may just have been added to my mental 'First Dance at Wedding Songs' playlist... I'm not weird, I promise you. It's just that this song, 'Light The Night', created by Razorlight's Andy Burrows, may just be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my whole entire existence on this planet.

It's a dream like beauty intertwined with some form of magic or whatever, it really is. I can't quite believe someone actually created this using a voice, some instruments and some epic producing. I owe Andy Burrows big time because what he has lovingly created is a song that only comes around once in a blue moon. And it doesn't matter if you're a little kid with a world full of innocent dreams, or an adult lost in a world devoid of such magic, 'Light The Night' will still mean something to you and it will evoke the same feeling of belief and hope in every person who takes the time to listen to it.

I know I sound kind of crazy, telling you these hazy tales, but you need to trust me on this one. Now I want you to open up www.youtube.com and type in 'Light The Night' by Andy Burrows. Then I want you to sit back, stop what you're doing, close your eyes, put on a jumper to combat the inevitable goose bumps and let the music take you away on a  magical journey through your mind.
Alternatively, you could just follow this link:

Either way, that's an imperative, so do it.

3) CIDER SKY

I've fallen in love with this band.
I think of their genre as being 'techno dream' because of the way they infuse techno and electro with what can only be described as dream like vocals and harmonies and swirls of rhythms and riffs.
Every song is beautiful yet you could easily slide their music on at a party and get everyone up on their feet and dancing till sunlight streaks the sky with shades of pink and blue.
Cider Sky are just the perfect combination of genres, sounds, beats.
I can't quite tell you how it's possible to describe this duo's music as peaceful, timid, honest, raw, yet powerful, strong, fierce, but when you listen to the music, it seems to answer for itself.
I urge you to let Cider Sky provide you with the perfect sunset to sunrise soundtrack.
Check out...

4) TAYLOR SWIFT

I know that Taylor Swift is now a world wide mega star and not a young, innocent in love, guitar playing country girl, and I know you don't need me to waffle on about her, but this is just a little heads up for anyone who is a fan of T. Swizzle (my affectionate nickname for her).
So on Taylor's latest album RED, it was possible to get your hands on an exclusive addition with three extra tracks and some acoustic versions of album songs.
If you haven't yet heard these beauties, please find your way to You Tube and listen, pretty please.

STATE OF GRACE (ACOUSTIC): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfyRpEG4uCE

5) BON JOVI

So Bon Jovi's back and now I'd like to introduce you to your anthem of summer 2013.
Enjoy it. It's ruddy awesome.

6) A FEW SONGS I'M ENJOYING
And I have no shame either, particularly of this first one...

2) Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day

3) Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley

5) All Apologies Nirvana

I hope you enjoy.
