First of all, let me apologize for the lack of new posts recently. If I'm really honest with you, it's because I haven't been inspired enough by anything to then want to write about it, however that is changing, especially as I hope to get my mitts on the new Killers album next week, as well as a whole host of others!
Now today's post is dedicated to a four year old American boy called Ronan. Ronan suffered from cancer and died in 2011 after a battle with the disease, though not before a certain Miss Swift had read of his daily experiences with cancer in a blog written by Ronan's mother Maya. As a gesture of good will and as a way of making sure Ronan was never forgotten, she set about writing a song with Ronan's mother that would then be released on iTunes with all profits from the single being donated to cancer charities, thus helping such charities to continue their work to fight against cancer and also raising the profile of childhood cancer itself.
Whether you like Taylor Swift or not, whether you like her music or not, you simply cannot knock or criticize this decision of hers and you cannot disagree that what she has done is a beautiful thing.
Upon listening to the song, which is a ballad quietly wrenched with emotion, heartbreak and beauty, you begin to think about the cruelty of cancer itself, especially when it takes the lives of those so young and who are yet to experience the joys of this world of ours. Those who are yet to live their lives.
Through writing and releasing this single, lovingly titled as 'Ronan', Taylor has used the power of music in a positive, constructive and admirable way. On top of this, she has used her high profile in a very admirable way as well, using it to re-direct the attention of people worldwide to a cause that affects huge amounts of people everywhere. Taylor has shone the light on a cause that is very much ongoing and one that we will all need to keep fighting for for a long while to come if we want to see cancer stopped for good.
Due to Taylor's high profile, this song has already reached number 1 in the current iTunes chart and is very likely to hit the top of the Billboard charts too, bringing even more attention to such a brave, courageous little man whose story will touch the hearts of people everywhere. The selfless action of donating all profits to cancer charities then means that charities will then recieve thousands of pounds which they can use to continue to do their amazing work and support themselves whilst doing so too.
Ronan's death will not have been in vain.
This single is important, it is for an absolutely fantastic cause that affects almost all of us at some point in our lives. Ronan's story represents those of cancers sufferers everywhere, the battle they take on which could lead to their survival or death and the courage they have to keep on fighting as best as they can.
It is heartbreaking that such a young boy had to go so soon, but his battle has lead to a truly wonderful thing.
Through the efforts of Taylor and Ronan's mother, Ronan's spirit has been kept alive and is shining that light on to the battle so many people have faced in some shape or form.
Every time the single, 'Ronan', is bought on iTunes, the profit is donated to a charity dedicated to fighting against cancer. It doesn't line Taylor Swift's pocket, it lines the pocket of charities doing an amazing job for all of us. So even if you can't stand Taylor Swift or her music, just stop and think for a moment about what she is doing, think about Ronan and all the other cancer sufferers out there, think about how this song is for a wonderful cause and try to put aside your personal opinions for the sake of doing something beautiful.
I know that I will be buying this single for Ronan and the three people in my life that have battled cancer, because it's for a cause that means a lot to me and I want to do whatever thing I can, big or small, to help.
'Ronan' is an emotional song, dedicated to a little boy with sky blue eyes, courage of a knight in shining armor and dreams that had no limits, and I want to let you all know about this brilliant cause and spread awareness too.
Thank you (':
